albarano history

In 1962, John Albarano was a young engineer with an ambition to start his own construction company. With engineering degrees in both Civil and Mining Engineering from Penn State University, John focused his work on design-build projects.

Soon we had completed projects for many local companies and had a growing list of national companies that we were performing construction services for; Weis Supermarkets, Atlantic Richfield, Goodyear and 25 McDonald’s restaurants in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

In the 1970’s we became one of the largest companies in Pennsylvania to develop student housing. We performed design-build services for over 5,000 student apartments at 12 different colleges and universities. These projects ranged from fraternity and sorority houses to luxury off-campus apartments like the seven-story, 125 unit University Towers at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

In the 1980’s we began to develop properties for ourselves and had great success with urban renewal projects like the Basin Street Shopping Center in Williamsport. This area was previously the city dump and maintenance garage. Today it is a thriving business and retail center at the entrance to Downtown Williamsport and is home to two of our most recent success stories – Starbucks Coffee and Panera Bread Bakery and Café.

From the 1990’s through the present day, Albarano Construction, Inc. has been engaged to perform full construction services for retail, industrial, educational, commercial and multifamily projects.

We take great pride in our ability to deliver superior construction services under difficult or challenging circumstances. Such as:

A governmental agency risked losing funding for a program if they did not fully complete the construction within the timeline mandated. With only a few weeks remaining, they approached Albarano Construction, Inc, for help. The result: we completed construction of 1,700 SF home in only 28 days.

Panera Bread Bakery and Café wanted a store in Williamsport and wanted it fast. The problem, a 25,000 SF industrial building occupied the location they wanted. In less than six months, Albarano Construction, Inc. designed the building, navigated through the complex approval and permitting process, demolished the industrial building and completed construction of the new 4,200 SF Panera Café. The result: one of the fastest openings for a newly constructed Panera Bread store in the United States.
